April 30 2010:

Mixed fortunes for Horsham Riders Mark O,Brien and Sam Witmitz in the Tour of Malaysia:

Mechanical failures have dampened what has been a very successful Stint for the Wimmera pair in Malaysia. In Stage 1 Mark punctured and lost close to 9 minutes waiting for a neutral spares vehicle. Although Mark bounced back in the following stage to take 3rd place but the time loss put him out of contention for a podium finish in the general classification. Mark is sitting in 26th postion after stage 4

Sam finishing the first stage 14 sec down on the leader in 15th place was in fine form with high personal expectations but suffered equipment failure at the 175 km mark of the second stage and became a reluctant tourist. His fortunes best described by his face book comment, "broken derailler - no spare bike to finish stage - pinnarello hammer throw - tour over"

Sam now looks forward to competing in the Langkowi Criterium along with Mark on Sunday the 2nd of May before both return to Australia.

April 25 2010:

Success continues in Malaysia for Horsham Riders Mark O'Brien and Sam Witmitz.

Sam Witmitz was pipped on the line by the smallest of margins in stage 2 of the Melaka Governors Cup denying his first international event stage victory. Although victory eluded Sam his second placing placed him on the podium both for the stage and also for the overall General Classification for the UCI class 2.2 event.

The event result has given confidence to both riders in preparation for next weeks Malaysian Tour event.

The Shane Kelly Cycling Experience hailed a huge success:

The Shane Kelly Cycling experience has been hailed as a huge success. The event conducted over three days, clocking up over 1200 klms traveling across the Wimmera. The tour visited 6 secondary colleges(Nhill, Dimboola, Horsham, Stawell, St Arnaud, Murtoa)1 kindergarten( St Arnaud) 1 primary school(Horsham North) and had over 360 participants. The event had Shane kelly talk to the students about his journey as a regionally based athlete reaching the elite level of his sport, some of the barriers he en counted, the highs and the lows. Students then were rotated through a bike ed session around bike safety, maintenance and riding which included bikes skills drills, a third session followed with an inclusive session utilizing the hand cycle.

Well done to the event partners Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly (Sam Witmitz, Sam Story)- Cyclesport |Victoria(Ashley Coote) and Shane Kelly.
